Prof. Syeda Sultana Razia elected to OPCW Scientific Advisory Board member for the Second Term
Prof. Syeda Sultana Razi has been appointed as a member of the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) for a second three-year term, effective from January 1, 2021. Director-General of the OPCW Fernando Arias has made this appointment after the 95th session of the Executive Council of the OPCW in The Hague. The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), with its 193 member states, has its seat in The Hague, Netherlands, and oversees the global endeavor for the permanent and verifiable elimination of chemical weapons. OPCW was awarded the 2013 Nobel Prize for Peace for its comprehensive efforts to eliminate chemical weapons. The Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) is an OPCW subsidiary body that enables the Director-General to render specialized advice in science and technology to the Conference, Executive Council, or States Parties to the Convention. The SAB is made up of 25 independent experts from the OPCW Member States. Syeda Sultana Razia is the first Bangladeshi national appointed as a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the OPCW since its inception in 1998.
