iCFP 2016 Awards to BUET Chem Eng Researchers

BUET Researchers have Received Best Paper Awards and Young Scientist Award at the 2nd International Conference on Food Properties (iCFP2016), Bangkok, Thailand

Recently Dr. Mohidus Samad Khan, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering, BUET, and his research group (BET Group) received three prestigious awards at the 2nd International Conference on Food Properties (iCFP2016), Bangkok, Thailand, May 31-June 2, 2016. The theme of iCFP2016 was: ‘Utilization of Food Properties for Food Security’. Scientists from 24 countries participated in the event. A total of 121 papers were presented in the conference which covered new process developments for new food products and their properties.

At the conference, Dr. Khan and his team presented two papers on ‘Food and Health’ issues, which are published in the conference proceedings (ISBN: 9780980825138). Both the papers received ‘iCFP2016 Best Paper Awards’. Dr. Mohidus Samad Khan has been awarded the ‘iCFP2016 Young Scientist Award’ in recognition of the outstanding young researcher in iCFP2016. The certificates were handed over by Professor Md. Shafiur Rahman, Chair iCFP2016, to the participants on the final day of the conference.

BET Group believes the awards are the outcome of the hard work and dedication of its group members.   • iCFP2016 Best Paper Award on Mass Transfer Properties, Mass-volume-area related Properties & Mechanical Properties Track for the paper entitled: ‘Analyzing Diffusivity of Formaldehyde in Formalin Treated Fish Samples: ‘Catla catla’’.
  • iCFP2016 Best Paper Award on Health and Wellness & Medicinal Properties Track for the paper entitled: ‘Measuring and Analyzing Dental Erosion Caused by Beverages and Bottled Drinking Water in Bangladesh’.

Announcement of Launching of M A Naser Chair

It is with great pleasure that the Department of Chemical Engineering is announcing the appointment of Dr. M . Sam Mannan, Director of Mary Kay O’Connor Process Safety Center of Texas A & M University as the First Holder of “M A Naser Chair”. The Chair is established by the BUET Chemical Engineering Alumni Association (ChEAA) at the Department of Chemical Engineering, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka.

The launching of the M A Naser Chair will be held on 26 December, 2015. A number of activities will be undertaken by Dr. Mannan during his tenure.

  • Launching ceremony: 9:30 am 26 December, 2015 at Seminar Room, Council Building, BUET
  • Industrial Safety Course: From 21 December, 2015 to 7 January, 2016 at the Dept of Chemical Engineering, BUET (Participants: ChE, ME, MME, IPE graduates of BUET and other universities)
  • Lecture and presentation for Undergraduate students on “Opportunities for Engineering Graduates” on 22 December, 2015 at 3 pm at Civil Seminar Room (Participants: Final year students and fresh graduates of all department of BUET)
  • Two short courses/workshops: (Participants: Design and manufacturing engineers, safety personnel/practitioners and chemists from Academia and Industry)
  • Seminar and round table on “Safety programs for Garments Industry”: 2 January, 2016, IEB Council Room (Participants: Representatives from RMG sector)
