AnnouncementsOctober 02, 2026

The BUET Chemical Engineering Alumni Association, in collaboration with the Department of Chemical Engineering, BUET, is organizing a two-day workshop on Process Safety Management (PSM).

The workshop covers the fundamentals of PSM, with a strong focus on preventing major accident hazards in the oil and gas and process industries. It addresses the identification and control of fire, explosion, and loss-of-containment risks, along with the engineering and management strategies needed to prevent them. Participants will get practical insights into fire and explosion hazards, overpressure protection, relief system design, Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Management of Change (MOC), Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR), safe work practices (Permit-to-Work, hot work control), and Process Safety Performance Indicators (KPIs). Real-world case studies will be used throughout.

Date: 21-22 November 2026
Venue: Department of Chemical Engineering, BUET
Registration fee: BDT 15,000 (excluding VAT and tax)
Organized by: BUET Chemical Engineering Alumni Association (ChEAA), in collaboration with the Department of Chemical Engineering, BUET

Who should attend
Process safety, HSE, and risk management personnel. Process, chemical, and mechanical engineers. Operations, production, and maintenance professionals. Plant and facility managers. Permit-to-Work supervisors, regulators, auditors, and safety committee members. Graduate engineers and early-career professionals in high-hazard industries.

Learning outcomes
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify and assess major fire, explosion, and toxic release hazards using a PSM approach.

  • Apply engineering and operational controls, including overpressure protection, relief systems, and safe work practices.

  • Use core PSM elements such as PHA, MOC, and PSSR to manage risk across the facility lifecycle.

  • Use leading and lagging process safety indicators to monitor system health and drive continuous improvement.
